In the UK, the remains of King Richard the Third have made their final journey to Leicester Cathedral, more than 500 years after he died in battle.

His skeleton was discovered three years ago, on the first day of an archeological dig, underneath a council car park.

His body was paraded around Leicestershire, with a stop this afternoon close to the battlefield where he was killed in 1485.

These people who were watching said it was a fitting tribute:

There has been some controversy over the burial. On a Facebook page entitled 'Petition to Bring Richard III back to Yorkshire', the organisers write, "His wish was to be buried in York Minster. Leicester put his body on display for 3 days before throwing him into a shallow grave! His wishes to be buried in York were not adhered to, and now we act on his, Richard of York's behalf and urge he is re-interred in York Minster!"

BBC quotes city mayor Peter Soulsby, who said, "it was from Leicester in 1485 that Richard rode out to battle and it was to Leicester that he returned, defeated, slung ignominiously across the back of a horse. It's now our opportunity to put it right and to make sure this time that it's done with dignity and honour."
