Gardaí have identified the remains of a man that were found in a Dublin recycling plant in July.

Mr Burke (37) was from Dun Laoghaire and he was identified through DNA.

Gardaí say Mr Burke was recently reported missing, but it is not known when he was last seen.

His family have been notified and are requesting privacy, and a garda family liaison officer is assisting them.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone, particularly those who knew Mr Burke, who may have information regarding his movements during July 2014 - or information that may assist the investigation team - to contact Ballyfermot garda station at 01-666-7200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any garda station.

The gardaí also thanked Thornton's and their staff, and numerous persons interviewed in the investigation to date.

An upper leg and lower leg were first located at the plant on July 31st, followed by a skull - which confirmed he had undergone brain surgery in the past.

Further body parts were found following extensive searches of up to 1,000 tonnes of domestic and industrial waste.
