Police in the North have launched an investigation into the attempted murder of two police officers in West Belfast.
The officers escaped uninjured after multiple gunshots were fired at their patrol car in Rossnareen Ave last night.
They were parked up outside the home of a traveller shot in the head last week, when they were attacked.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Charlie Flanagan has condemned the attack.
West Belfast MP Paul Maskey believes the shooting is not connected to the death of the man police were investigating at the time of the incident.
"I think opportunists have come out and obviously seen the police car. People have used that. They have used the crime scene and they have fired a number of shots at the police vehicle, hitting the police vehicle, but thankfully no-one has been injured."
Police are putting the damaged police car on display for media at a local station today.
