Members of a primary school board are recovering this morning after a masked man broke into their meeting and threatened them with a screwdriver.
Gardaí said the Longford primary school board was meeting when the man broke in shortly after 7pm yesterday.
He threatened the group with a sharp implement, believed to be a screwdriver, and stole a sum of cash before fleeing the scene on foot.
No-one was physically harmed in the attack.
A 38-year-ol man was arrested in Longford town a short time later and Gardaí recovered a sum of cash.
He is being held at Longford Garda Station.
Gardaí are carrying out a forensic examination of the crime scene and investigators are now appealing for witnesses.
They are particularly appealing to the driver of a van that may have been flagged down in the Chapel Street area by the suspect as he fled from the scene.
