It's an attempt to stop families in particular from dumping their policies as they become increasingly expensive.
January is the busiest time of year for renewals, with around half a million customers due to sign up again by the end of next month.

However, people are being asked to check the small print regarding what exactly their policy covers and any excess they may be liable for.
