Mental health remains an area of uncertainty in Ireland despite directly affecting huge amounts of the population. Earlier this week a survey carried for the National Youth Mental Health centre Headstrong found that at least 1 in 5 young people in Ireland are experiencing a mental health problem at any one time. The survey also found 60% of those would not seek help if experiencing a problem. You can read and hear more about the findings here.

Recent research by the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy has found that 52% of over 65s would seek help if they had a mental health health problem, with other demographics less likely to seek assistance.

To observe World Mental Health Day, Newstalk's Dil Wickremasinghe will be conducting a live blog on mental health between 11 am and 12 pm today. You can follow it by clicking here.

Several Newstalk presenters have previously supported charity See Change - an organisation dedicated to reducing stigmas surrounding mental health issues in Ireland. You can watch their latest video below, featuring Dil Wickremasinghe among others:

Would you attend a therapist if you had a mental health problem? Do you think there is still a stigma surrounding these issues in Irish society? What steps do you think could be taken to help raise awareness of the subject? Vote in our poll and leave your comments below.
