Almost 3 out of 4 or 72% Irish workers think there is a need for counselling and psychotherapy in the workplace.

Half of those questioned say they also feel their employer should be offering confidential counselling and psychotherapy services.

The research which was carried out by the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy also showed that almost 4 in 5 (77%) under 24s would support counselling and psychotherapy in the workplace.

Because we spend such a large amount of time at our desks, the IACP is urging people to ensure they feel comfortable and content in their work environment. Over half of the participants of the survey, aged 25 - 49, say they felt stressed out by their job.

Shane Kelly, counsellor and Professional Services Manager at IACP says it's important people can talk through issues or problems they may be experiencing in work.

He recommends:

- If you’re feeling under pressure about work talk to somebody such as a friend, family member, doctor or counsellor.
- Set yourself realistic goals for the results you can achieve;
- Eat a well balanced diet. Healthy eating improves memory and concentration;
- Exercise is a good stress reliever, which can help you think more clearly.
