From football matches to political rallies, live-tweeters has covered pretty much every type of event imaginable. But officers in the US state of Maryland have come up with a new one - live tweeting a sting operation.

Police in Prince George's County have announced that a prostitution bust will be updated live on Twitter some time next week.

The exact time and location are being kept secret, but the police department plans to spare no details when the tweeting begins. A notice on the department's website says that they will be relaying names and photos of suspected clients, and gives the motivation behind the idea:

"We're using this progressive, and what we believe unprecedented, social media tactic to warn any potential participants that this type of criminal behavior is not welcome in Prince George's County".

They were also keen to clarify that the prostitutes, despite the misleading photo above which accompanied the announcement, are not the targets: "Our Vice Unit will target those who choose to solicit a prostitute, not prostitutes themselves."

Will there be drama, questionable ethics, and subsequent lawsuits? Or will local johns drive to another county for the week? Keep an eye on @PGPDNews if you want to find out!
