Two police officers were left shaken after the windscreen of their police car was struck with a brick in Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim early this morning.

The officers were conducting a mobile patrol of the town when the incident occurred at around 2am this morning. A male dressed in a dark hooded jacket with his face covered, is believed to have emerged from an alleyway and thrown the brick at the police vehicle.

The man allegedly ran off after the brick smashed an area of the windscreen, which was positioned in front of the driver.

Sergeant Brian Caskey said:

"The officers were both left shaken but were physically unharmed. The person responsible needs to be identified and brought to justice."
