A Co Kildare public toilet costs the taxpayer over €37,000 a year to run according to a local Councillor.

A 20 year contract is in place for the toilet in Newbridge and Cllr Willie Crowley is calling for it to be terminated.

However breaking the contract will cost the local authority €81,000.

According to Mr Crowley over the course of the 20 years Kildare County Council will have spent almost three quarters of a million euro on the public convenience
