The parents of British pupils involved in a school bus crash in Belgium which killed the driver and left a 13-year-old boy in intensive care, have started arriving in the country.

Two drivers from the North were on board, along with 34 children aged between 11 and 13 and a further six adults, when the vehicle hit a bridge and overturned on the E40 motorway in West Flanders.

One pupil is in intensive care receiving treatment for a head injury.

Richmond Coaches, of Ballinderry Road, in Lisburn, has confirmed that one of its vehicles had been involved in the crash.

A spokesman for the company said what happened was "a tragedy" and the firm is co-operating with the authorities.

Brentwood School, in Essex, has released a statement saying its Headmaster, Ian Davies, is holding a briefing for parents at Brentwood today, while two senior members of staff have traveled to Belgium.

They say their thoughts are with the family of the driver who died and all the families of the pupils and teachers involved.
