NUI Galway is looking for older people to join a study about how music ages the brain.

Researchers want people aged between 60 and 85 to take part in the study on the effects of listening to music.

They say that older people listen to music in a more spiritual way while younger people use it to escape from life.

People taking part in the study will get to pick the music that they listen to - and have to perform tasks while listening.

The study aims to see if music improves emotional, social or cognitive functioning which could be used to benefit older people in the future.

As for choice of music - older people taking part in the study chose classical or their own personal collection of hits.

Researchers want another 200 people over 60 to take part

The study has already examined the effects of music on the younger brain - and found that 25 per cent of those taking part choosing to listen to Ed Sheeran for the experiment.
