The Attorney-General in Northern Ireland is to review the decision not to prosecute Gerry Adams over claims he withheld information about the abuse of his niece.

Last week a court found the brother of the Sinn Fein president - Liam Adams - guilty of sexually assaulting his daughter Aine.

There were calls for Gerry Adams to be prosecuted after it emerged the Sinn Fein TD for Louth had previously confronted his brother about the abuse.

The PSNI recommended against that.

However now the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for Northern Ireland has asked for the matter to be independently reviewed.

Liam Adams will be sentenced on November 5th in Belfast after being found guilty by a jury last month.

The 58-year-old, from Bernagh Drive in Belfast, had denied all 10 charges - three of rape, three of gross indecency and four of indecent assault.

The attacks happened between March 1977 and March 1983 when his daughter was aged between 4 and 9-years-old.

Last week, Gerry Adams said he had already answered questions in relation to his brother, adding that his family need space.
