The Minister for Finance says it won't be possible for Ireland to piggyback on any deal given to Greece.

Michael Noonan today said Ireland cannot get any more concessions on its bailout programme, because the Troika have left Ireland. While emphasising that Ireland has not made any decision on asking for a deal or not, Mr Noonan pointed ou he does not believe there is much Ireland can get in any potential deal.

“Concessions are usually made for countries who are part of a programme,” he said.

“We’re no longer part of a programme and we certainly have no intention of going back into a programme, so the government has made no decision to look for anything that the Greeks might get. I think we’re jumping too far ahead.”

Mr Noonan has been speaking in Brussels ahead of a meeting of Eurozone finance ministers to discuss Greece's demands for its debts to be written off.

Mr Noonan also said the Greek government does not appear to have made up its mind on exactly what it wants.

“They have said different things in different European capitals, and (there was a) different emphasis again in their Prime Minister’s speech in parliament, so today will be the first opportunity I have to listen to a representative of the new Greek government directly,” he said.
