'Nollaig Shona Duit' Christmas lights will return to Dublin's Grafton Street this year, after a controversial absence in 2019.

DublinTown has announced that the Christmas lights in the capital will go up as usual this year.

However, following controversy last year about a new 'Grafton Quarter' sign, a 'Nollaig Shona Duit' (Happy Christmas) sign will return to to one of the city's mains thoroughfare.

The sign is being transferred from Wicklow Street to Grafton Street, DublinTown confirmed.

The business group says stores are now ready to meet customer demand, and shopping early will help management deal with social distancing.

CEO of DublinTown Richard Guiney encouraged people buy their presents from Irish companies.

He said: "You can start doing your Christmas shopping now - get your few bits and pieces, so we don't have a big rush at Christmas time.

"We want to make sure everyone has a comfortable time, get in and do their shopping, and do that safely."

He said businesses in the city need the public's support now 'more than we've ever needed you before'.
