It has been confirmed that the government will not be introducing emergency legislation to deal with Irish Water.
TDs have been told to stay in Dublin next Thursday and Friday for a vote on the water system.
The news had led to speculation that a new law could be on the way as part of an overhaul of the water charges system.
But on Twitter, the government chief whip Paul Kehoe has confirmed that TDs will only be debating a motion and not any new laws.
Time is being set aside in the Dail next week for debate on water, not legislation.
