Nine people have been rescued after a boat got into difficulty on Lough Derg.

Just before 2pm this afternoon, rescue services at Lough Derg RNLI were tasked by Valentia Coast Guard, following a request for assistance from a cruiser which had run aground on rocks by Ryan's Point.

Eleanor Hooker, a spokesperson for the RNLI, said everyone on board was safely rescued - but early attempts to refloat the boat were unsuccessful.
