Newstalk is delighted to announce the launch of a new weekly environmental podcast, Down to Earth, presented by environmental scientist Dr Cara Augustenborg.

The series will be dedicated to exploring our natural environment and will debate how we can address the limits to our planet’s resources. From climate change to species extinction, Cara will try to find common ground as to how we can address our biggest global crisis.

The podcast series - sponsored by Amundi - features twelve episodes, with a new episode becoming available every Friday afternoon on podcast and another opportunity to listen every Saturday evening on Newstalk from 8pm.

The first episode is available now, and looks at the issue of Ireland's air quality.

As a Fellow and lecturer in Environmental Policy at University College Dublin and an Honourary Member of President Michael D Higgins' Council of State, Dr Augustenborg is recognised for her outstanding experience in the environmental education sector.

Named the ‘Woman of Influence’ at the Irish Women’s Awards last year, Dr Augustenborg will deliver an inspiring and informative podcast discussing a range of climate issues.

A sample of topics to listen out for include:

  • Forestry – Climate saviour or nature destroyer?
  • Little Old Ireland – Why bother addressing climate change when other countries aren’t?
  • Food – The Future of Food
  • Fast Fashion – Is there an ugly side to it?
  • Electric Vehicles – Has the technology advanced enough to transform transportation?

Dr Augustenborg is the media authority on all things environmental, and Newstalk are thrilled to have her join the team to present this new podcast series.

Speaking on the announcement Patricia Monahan, Managing Editor at Newstalk said: “After an extremely successful two and a half years of hosting the Down to Earth segment on The Hard Shoulder, we are delighted to develop the slot into a podcast series. Dr Augustenborg is the natural choice to host this series.

"We are delighted to have her on board and know she will provide engaging conversations for our listeners. We are also delighted to have Amundi Asset Management on board as sponsor and look forward to working with them.”

Amundi Ireland

Down to Earth podcast sponsor, Amundi, is the leading European asset manager, offering its 100 million clients a complete range of savings and investment solutions in active and passive management, in traditional or real assets.

With its six international investment hubs, financial and extra-financial research capabilities, and long-standing commitment to responsible investment, Amundi is a key player in the global asset management landscape.

Amundi clients benefit from the expertise and advice of 4,500 employees in nearly 40 countries. A subsidiary of the Crédit Agricole group and listed on the stock exchange, Amundi currently manages more than €1.650 trillion of assets.

Describing their support for the podcast Graham Fox, Head of Retail Distribution, Amundi Ireland said: “Amundi is a pioneer in responsible investing with its office in Dublin, a key investment centre and main hub for equity management globally, playing a critical role in the company’s ESG investment approach and product range.

"Therefore, Down to Earth with its Environmental, Social and Governance agenda is a natural fit. We are delighted to be working with Newstalk and Down to Earth.”

Amundi believes that being a responsible investor means being 100% responsible. This month (January 2021), Amundi launched a new ESG advertising campaign communicating that 100% of its open-ended funds now include an environmental and social and governance analysis of the companies in which it invests, demonstrating that ESG is fully at the heart of its business activities.
