A new opinion poll for the European elections shows the Sinn Féin candidate leading the way in Dublin.

The Millward Brown poll for tomorrow's Sunday Independent shows Lynn Boylan with 20 per cent of the vote - while current independent MEP Nessa Childers is on 19.

The poll of 531 Dublin voters taken on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week confirms that Sinn Féin appears set to take seats in all four Irish constituencies - north and south of the border.

With 20 per cent of the vote, Sinn Féin’s Lynn Boylan is not far off a quota - and with 10 per cent of second preferences, she’s set to secure a seat.

Independent Nessa Childers also appears safe, with 19 per cent of first preferences and 18 per cent of second preferences.

But Junior finance minister Brian Hayes from Fine Gael is in a dogfight for the final seat - with 15 per cent of first preferences, but only 9 per cent of seconds.

He's in a struggle alongside Mary Fitzgerald of Fianna Fáil on 13 per cent, Labour's Emer Costello on 12, and the Green Party leader Eamon Ryan on 11 - each of whom are more attractive for second preference votes than Brian Hayes.
