Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed a last minute deal to form a new coalition government, according to reports.
The deal comes seven weeks after Netanyahu’s Likud party won the general election, and just before a final deadline on the composition of a new government.
If the deal does go through it will see Netanyahu start a fourth term as Prime Minister.
The Israeli government has always been made up of a coalition, the BBC reports, but it is unusual for the process of forming a government to run this late.
Netanyahu’s party won 30 seats, and had already joined with three other parties – the centrist Kulanu, and the ultra-orthodox pair of Shas and United Torah Judaism, for a combined 53. Today’s deal will see right-wing Bayit Yehudi offer their 8 seats in support of the government, giving Netanyahu the required 61 seats to form a majority.
