The Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland has condemned the murder of a man in north Belfast.

Martin McGuinness of Sinn Féin has tweeted a call for the unreserved condemnation of the murder of Kevin Kearney. He has also insisted that society rejects those responsible.

PSNI detectives launched a murder investigation after his body was found in a lake at Alexandra Park shortly after 3:30pm yesterday afternoon.

A dissident republican earlier claimed responsibility in an interview with the Irish News newspaper.

A post-mortem will be carried out later. The PSNI have appealed for anyone who was in Alexandra Park between 8:30 and 9:30am on Tuesday morning to contact them.
