Two prison officers have been injured in an attack by an inmate in Mountjoy Prison.
They received slash wounds in the incident, which happened at around 8:30am this morning.
An improvised weapon was used in the attack, which the Irish Prison Service described as "unprovoked". The officers are receiving treatment for non-life threatening injuries in hospital.
The Prison Service is investigating, and the gardaí have been notified.
Prison officer "Paddy" has been seriously assaulted on two occasions. He spoke to Newstalk Lunchtime about the safety conditions in the prisons.
He said: "Sometimes it feels like we're the prisoners, we're not the officers".
