Motorists will be given a third chance to pay penalty points fines under a new system.

Drivers currently have 28 days to pay the initial €80 fine and should they miss that deadline are then given an additional 28 days to pay an increased fine of €120. This second chance is the final chance however, before being summoned to court.

Under the new system motorists will have a third chance to pay before appearing in court, according to the Sunday Business Post.
