Eight people have been injured after a bus crashed into a Luas in Dublin city centre this morning.

The Luas tram was derailed in the crash at the corner of Queen Street and Benburb Street just after 7am this morning.

Gardaí have confirmed that up to eight people have been taken to hospital following the crash.

The road has been closed and diversions are in place. Gardaí said it will be up to four hours before the scene is cleared.

New Zealand’s prime minister says a 28-year-old man who has been charged with murder follow the terror attacks in Christchurch wanted to kill more people.

Australian national Brenton Tarrant was remanded in custody after the attacks at two mosques that left 49 people dead.

A total of 42 others were injured in the in the attack and 12 – including a young girl – remain in a critical condition.

A website has been set up for friends and family to report loved ones who are still missing.

US President Donald Trump could visit Ireland as early as June.

President Trump told reporters on Thursday he intends to visit Ireland at some stage this year.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said it is likely he will visit here as part of his trip to France for the D-Day anniversary on June 6th.

He could also hold off until he visits London for a NATO Summit in December.

A 64-year-old man has died after in a three-vehicle road crash in County Mayo.

Gardaí said the crash, involving two cars and a truck happened at around 12:15pm yesterday.

The man was the driver of one of the cars and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man who was driving the second car received minor injuries.

The Irish Passport Service has received over 230,000 passport applications so far this year – a 30% rise on the same period in 2018.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said the increase in demand is down to a rise in the number of Irish people travelling and tendency towards early renewal.

There were over 860,000 passports issued last year – the highest number ever recorded.

Over 70% of all last year’s applications came from the island of Ireland.
