Reports in Japan say at least 19 people have died and 16 are missing following the biggest typhoon the country's seen in six decades.

Typhoon Hagibis tore through Japan's capital city of Tokyo and its surrounding prefectures after arriving on Saturday night.

People have been buried in landslides and swept away by raging rivers following winds of more than 225kph.

More than six million people were advised to evacuate their homes ahead of the storm’s arrival.

Turkey has warned that its bombardment of northern Syria will continue for further nine days.

The US has called on Turkey to halt its incursion into Kurdish controlled areas – which began after President Donald Trump pulled troop from the region.

The Trump administration has insisted it has not abandoned America’s Kurdish allies to the onslaught and has threatened economic sanctions on Turkey.

The UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has expressed his "grave concern" about the attack to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Gardaí are investigating after a group of young men were injured in a fall from the trailer of an articulated truck in County Wicklow yesterday.

Nine people were taken to two separate hospitals in Dublin after the accident in Enniskerry at around 6pm.

In a statement, Enniskerry GAA said some of its players were badly injured in the incident.

They are being treated for non life-threatening injuries at Tallaght and St Vincent's Hospitals.

The UK Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn has said he is unlikely to support a Brexit plan being trashed out by U and EU negotiators this weekend.

The Democratic Unionist Party has also voiced concern about reports of a compromise on the Irish border issue.

It is believed the plans would see the North effectively remaining in the customs union – with businesses offered a rebate for any tax differences when trading into Britain.

Jeremy Corbyn said the plan raises issue over “regulation ad deregulation” in the UK and warned that if it creates a border down the Irish Sea, “I can see that bringing problems.”

An Irishman is getting ready to attempt the world's highest solo ultra-marathon.

Daithi Ó Murchú is planning a Guinness World Record attempt to run the 'highest-altitude ultra-marathon by an individual.'

He has said he will be battling to get oxygen into his lungs as he runs for ten hours across the peaks of Kala Patthar, Everest Base Camp and Namche Bazaar.

He said he will running at an average altitude of just under 5,000 metres over a distance of over 60km.
