The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) claims 2018 was the worst year on record for hospital overcrowding.
Figures released today by the organisation say a record 108,227 patients went without hospital beds last year - a 9% increase on 2017.
The figures show Limerick University Hospital was the hospital worst affected by overcrowding.
