The governor of the Central Bank will face questions about the tracker mortgage scandal at the Oireachtas Finance committee today.

It's now understood up to 30,000 customers may have been affected when they were taken off trackers by lenders.

However, the banks still have not compensated all of those affected.

An Oireachtas committee tasked with addressing Ireland's abortion laws says says the 8th amendment of the Constitution must be changed.

They will now have to decide between six possible options to be put to the people by referendum.

The committee must report by mid-December, ahead of a planned referendum next May or June.

New adoption laws come into force from today.

From now on, any couple, gay or straight, who have been living together for at least three years can apply to adopt a child.

Previously, only married couples or individuals qualified.

International crews are joining ESB staff today as efforts continue to reconnect households cut off in Storm Ophelia.

More than 300,000 customers have been reconnected so far, while 78,000 remained without power last night.

Thousands of people also remain without water.

Musician Eamonn Campbell of the Dubliners has died.

The 70-year-old passed away in the Netherlands yesterday after a short illness.

He had just finished a European tour with the band The Dublin Legends.
