A Gaza hospital has reported at least 20 people have been killed in an Israeli air strike at Nuseirat refugee camp.

Witnesses said the strike occurred around 3am local time.

Reports from Al Jazeera say Al-Asqa Hospital is “overwhelmed with patients” as Israel continues its bombardment of the region.

Fierce battles have been reported in the central Nuseirat camp since the military launched a “targeted” operation.

Palestinian militants and Israeli troops have also clashed in north Gaza’s Jabalia camp for days now.

The death of at least 20 Palestinians at Nuseirat follows the killing of at least 64 people following intensified Israeli air and ground strikes.

Dozens more are believed to be buried under the rubble of collapsed buildings, with rescuers still at work.

At least 900,000 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced over the past week.

Conflict in Gaza

Approximately 35,000 people in Palestine have been killed and 79,000 have been wounded in Israeli attacks in Gaza since October 7th.

The Israeli Defence Forces also recovered the body of Israeli hostage Ron Benjamin, who was taken by Hamas during its attack in October.

The remains of three other hostages were also found this week in an overnight operation, including Tania Louk.

Israeli War Cabinet member Benny Gantz has said he would resign from the Government if he doesn’t adopt a new post-war strategy in Gaza by June 8th.

He has asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to prioritise the return of hostages, demilitarise Gaza and normalise relations with Saudi Arabia.

"If you choose the path of fanatics and lead the entire nation to the abyss - we will be forced to quit the government," he said.

The centrist politician joined Mr Netanyahu's coalition and the war cabinet in the early days of the conflict.

Mr Netanyahu said these conditions given are "euphemisms" for defeat.

Mr Gantz’ departure would leave the Prime Minister more beholden to far-right allies who have been tough on negotiations for a ceasefire and the release of hostages.
