Met Éireann has extended its Status Yellow wind warning to Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow.
The warning will remain in place until 11am this morning.
The forecaster said southerly winds will hit average speeds of 50 to 60kph with gusts of up to 90kph.
Meanwhile an earlier warning issued for Wexford, Cork and Waterford will also remain in place until 11am.
Today
Very windy and wet for a time this morning, with strong to gale force southerly winds.
The rain will clear eastwards into the Irish Sea before early afternoon and the winds will begin to ease off.
Sunshine and well scattered showers will follow later in a fresh westerly wind.
Maximum temperatures of 7C to 10C.
TONIGHT
Dry and chilly early in the night with minimum temperatures of 2C to 5C occurring before midnight.
However, cloud will quickly thicken and outbreaks of rain will spread across the country accompanied by freshening southerly winds.
Temperatures will rise overnight with values ranging 7C to 10C by dawn on Tuesday.
