EU Ministers for Justice are holding an extraordinary meeting in Brussels this afternoon to discuss ways of enhancing security amongst member states.
The meeting was arranged in the wake of the attacks on Tuesday which left 31 people dead, 61 critically injured and 250 wounded.
Speaking in Brussels today, Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald admitted Ireland will arm some Gardai at Dublin airport as a response to the attacks in Europe.
"No country is immune from this type of terrorism. We have no specific information that would suggest that Ireland is at risk. But clearly it's the democratic way of life and democratic values that are being challenged by terrorists, so obviously we have to take every security precaution that we can, and Garda Síochána are doing that, and the armed patrols are a response to that."
