Garda recruitment is to resume in the next few weeks. Justice Minister Alan Shatter says advertisements for new recruits will be issued in early December.

The Minister was speaking at an Oireachtas Committee as he admitted the gardai would need an extra €32 million in funding this year.

He said the intake would be in two phases next Spring, but could not say how many recruits will be taken in

But he says the government has assigned enough money for next year to resume training in Templemore.

Mr. Shatter also dismissed claims that he has been forced into a u-turn on the garda budget.
