The Fianna Fáil leader says it will not be up to the Taoiseach or Tánaiste to select the next Government - it will be the people of Ireland.

Micheál Martin was responding to comments made yesterday by Enda Kenny, who appeared to not rule out a coalition with Fianna Fáil.

However, today the Taoiseach again ruled out the prospect:

Speaking in Tralee, Deputy Martin said the Taoiseach appears to be confusing the electorate after appearing to rule it out previously.

"We have said very clearly we are not going into government with Fine Gael, we are not going into government with Sinn Féin," he added.

Yesterday, the Taoiseach said he does not 'contemplate' doing business with Fianna Fáil - but refused to fully rule out a coalition.

A number of former Fianna Fáil ministers are reported to have indicated they would support a government between the parties.

However, Minister Coveney says Fianna Fáil will not be needed.

Speaking to Newstalk Breakfast, the Agriculture Minister said, "I do have an issue with going into government with Fianna Fáil because I think their record is terrible, I don't think we need them back in government - and I think we have a very clear proposition for people."
