In 1955 a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL took part, and was unexpectedly victorious in one of the most challenging races in the world, the “Mille Miglia”. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of this event the manufacturing giant is creating the SL Special Edition “Mille Miglia 417”.
In 1955 the 300 SL started the race donning 417 as its number and took off from the starting line at 4.17 am. The race took part on public roads from Brescia to Rome and covered a distance of 1,597 kilometres and it finished its trip in a time of 11 hours, 29 minutes and 21 seconds. This car was driven by John Fitch and his co-driver Kurt Gessl and they crossed the finish line in fifth place in the overall standings and as the winner of the production sports car class.
The special edition “Mille Miglia 417” will have the number 417 integrated into its badge. The sporting performance of the vehicle will be enabled by a 6-cylinder SL400 engine with 333hp and an 8-cylinder SL500 with 455hp.
Red is the main highlighted colour of this machine with a red lip on the front spoiler and a red trim strip on the rear spoiler. The brake callipers of the black AMG Performance wheels will also be red. This special edition will come as standard with a magnetite black metallic paint finish. The AMG Line seats and the black centre console, as well as the black door centre panels will have red edgings.
In terms of price, well, we’re not sure. An indication as to how much it will cost is the price of the extensive optional extras (between €12,800 and €14,800). The Special Edition “Mille Miglia 417” will be available to order from April 7.
