MEPs will vote today on whether to close one of their two headquarters - in order to save taxpayers €200 million a year.
Thousands of MEPs and staff currently close shop and move from Brussels to Strasbourg in France once a month, at huge cost to the taxpayer.
According to Marian Harkin, MEP, "The building in Brussels is virtually evacuated, because all of the staff members have to come, all of the advisors etc, and then certain Commission staff have to come as well... huge numbers .... we're talking about thousands of people."
However, it's understood any plans by MEPs to base themselves in Brussels full time will be vetoed by the French government.
