Mediation talks to settle golfer Rory McIlroy's long running dispute with his former management company Horizon Sports are to take place this week, the Commercial Court heard today.

McIlroy is suing Horizon Sports Management – the Dublin based management company – and two other companies, Gurteen Ltd and Canovan Management Services, another Dublin based company.

McIlroy is seeking to void the contract he signed with Horizon in 2011. McIlroy alleges that when he signed the deal in 2011 he was inexperienced – then 22 years old – and without legal advice. McIlroy says the agreement is not valid, on the grounds of that he was under ‘undue influence’.

McIlroy also claims he signed his deal with Horizon on inferior terms to fellow major winner Graeme McDowell

Last month, a Commercial Court judge urged the sides to try to resolve the row. Last month’s Ryder Cup brought respite from the talks but following the tournament – at which McIlroy and McDowell played together as part of the European team.
