A man who stabbed his girlfriend’s lover after catching them together in their apartment in Dublin has been jailed for life for his murder.

Keith Connorton of Deerpark Avenue in Tallaght admitted stabbing Graham McKeever but claimed he was acting in self-defence.

When detectives knocked on her door on February 18th 2017, Graham McKeever’s mother Valerie told the court she crumbled to the floor.

She said her legs went to jelly and she still cannot accept that her first born child died in such a way.

Keith Connorton’s partner and mother of his child Claire McGrath told his trial that he came home just as she was about to have sex with Mr McKeever.

Connorton claimed he was acting in self-defence when he stabbed him but the jury disagreed and convicted him of murder just before Christmas.

Mr McKeever’s sister Danielle described the way her older brother died as “cruel and senseless”.

She said Graham was her “protector” and her first friend in the world.

Connorton also took the stand to tell the McKeever family he was very sorry and didn't mean for any of this to happen.

He was then handed the mandatory life sentence for murder.
