The victim of yesterday's fatal shooting in Kildare has been named locally as Jason Doogue.
The 22-year-old man was gunned down in the Greenhills area of Athy in broad daylight at around 5 o'clock in the evening.
He was rushed to Naas General Hospital with gunshot wounds following the incident. He was later pronounced dead.
As part of their investigations into the incident, gardaí arrested a man in connection with the shooting.
The man, who is in his 40s, is being detained at Kildare Garda Station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.
A post mortem on the victim's remains is expected to be carried out the State Pathologist today.
