The family of a woman murdered at her home in Dublin has told her killer to "rot in hell" as he was being led away to begin his life sentence.

Sean Nolan, of Ashington Crescent, Navan Road, Dublin, has been handed the mandatory life sentence after being convicted of murdering Amanda Carroll in 2018.

Amanda met Sean Nolan on Tinder just four months before he took her life. His trial heard he strangled her to death after a heavy drinking session.

He said he just wanted to shut her up after she called him by her ex-boyfriend’s name and told him she didn’t love him anymore.

Amanda’s 16-year-old son found her lifeless body in her bed the following morning.

Nolan claimed he was too drunk to form the requisite intention for murder, but the jury disagreed by majority verdict.

Amanda’s sister Sandra turned to face him in the dock today as she delivered her victim impact statement.

“May God have no mercy on your soul,’ she said.

She called him a 'monster' as he was being led away, and told him to 'rot in hell.'

She also said a few words about her sister outside court.

"She was a kindhearted person," she said. "She was the life and soul of the party. She was beautiful inside and out."

Meanwhile, Amanda's son told the court that finding his mother’s lifeless body in her bed has changed his life forever.

His trial heard he strangled her to death after she started calling him by her ex-boyfriend's name after a heavy drinking session.

Amanda's brother Gerard spoke to the media shortly after Nolan was handed the mandatory life sentence for murdering his sister.

“Amanda as a mother you could not ask for better,” he said.

“She diligently took care of every want and need for her two sons. She supported them in school, football and every day in life.

“We miss Amanda beyond words.”

He said his family would never forgive Nolan for what he had done.
