A man has been released without charge following his arrest over an attempted robbery in Co. Wicklow.

At around 3.30pm yesterday, a man entered a café in Ashford, holding what's believed to be an iron bar, and threatened staff.

No one was injured and the man left empty-handed.

Gardaí launched a search and a man (33) was detained. He was being questioned at Wicklow Garda Station but has since been released without charge.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
