A man in his 80s has died following a crash in Co Kilkenny last night.

It happened at Coolcullen between 7pm and 8pm.

The car the man was driving left the road and hit a pole.

His body was removed from the scene and taken to University Hospital Waterford, where a post mortem is due to take place.

The local coroner has been informed.

The road is currently closed, while a Garda forensics team will examine the scene this morning.

Gardaí are looking to speak to any witnesses who have travelled on the road last night.
