Revenue officers at Dublin Airport have seized 16,000 cigarettes in an intelligence-led operation.
The discovery was made last Saturday June 10th, but has only now come to light.
Officers stopped and searched a passenger who had arrived from Chisinau in Moldova via Frankfurt.
The cigarettes were branded 'Camel' and 'Marlboro' and have a retail value of €8,800.
Revenue say this represents a potential loss to the exchequer of €7,100.
The passenger, a 28-year-old Romanian man, was arrested.
He appeared before Judge Victor Blake in Cloverhill District Court on Friday, where he was further remanded in custody.
He will appear in that court again on Friday next, June 23rd.
