A man arrested in connection with dissident republican activity in the border region is due to appear in Court tonight. 

The man in his 40s was arrested on Wednesday in the Scotstown area of Monaghan as part of an ongoing operation involving the Special Detective Unit, Crime and Security, the Emergency Response Unit and Gardaí.

He was detained at Carrickmacross Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30, Offences Against the State Act.

The man is being brought before a special sitting of of the Special Criminal court this evening.
