A man has died in a car crash in County Kildare.

Gardaí were alerted to the crash involving two cars on the M4 Westbound near Kilcock shortly after 11pm yesterday.

A man in his late 40s who was driving one of the cars was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was injured in the crash.

The road remains closed this morning and local diversions are in place.

A forensic examination of the crash site is expected later today and a post-mortem is due to be arranged.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly interested in talking to drivers who were in area at the time and may have camera footage.
