A 55-year-old man has died from injures sustained in a workplace accident in Cork earlier this week.
Billy Tubritt was a roofer from Saltmills near New Ross in Co. Wexford. He was seriously injured when he fell from a ladder while working on a storage shed at the CIT Sports Grounds around 10am on Monday.
It is understood that the man fell around three metres to the ground and was conscious after the fall, which was seen by two workmates who immediately contacted the emergency services.
He underwent emergency surgery at Cork University Hospital but lost his battle for life last night. Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) are to investigate.
The gardai are treating the death as a tragic accident.
It brings the number of fatalities in the construction industry this year so far to 10. CIT have extended its sympathy to the man's family.
