A man (25) has died after a crash in Co Meath.

It happened at 12:30am at Dunheeda about 2.5 kilometres outside Kingscourt.

The man's car hit a tree, and he was taken to Navan Hospital with serious injuries.

He was later pronounced dead. A post mortem is to take place on his remains today.

While the scene of the crash has been closed to facilitate a forensic collision examination.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have been on the road between 12:15am and 1am to contact them in Navan on 046-903-6100, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800-666-111 or any garda station.
