A man in his late 20's has died following a collision in county Kildare this morning.

The single car incident happened in Kilmeage, Naas at around 10 o'clock, when a car was discovered submerged in the canal at Newpark by a member of the public.

The man, who was the sole occupant of the car, was discovered in the car once it was removed from the water. 

His body has been removed to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital and the coroner's office has been notified. 

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area between 7pm on Friday evening and the early hours of this morning to contact them at Naas Garda Station.
