A man has been charged in connection with a carjacking in Galway city yesterday morning.

Gardaí said a it happened outside a shop in the Béal Srutha area at around 11:30am

A man in his 20s was sitting in his car when another man got in and threatened him.

He forced him to drive and, after a short time, demanded that the he get out of the car and come with him to buy alcohol.

The driver used the opportunity to flee the scene. He was not injured during the ordeal.

Gardaí have now charged a man in his 20s in connection with the incident. He is due to appear before Galway District Court at around 12pm today.
