A man (35) has been arrested over the theft of a number of historical items from the National Library of Ireland.

Gardai from National Bureau of Criminal Investigation made the arrest in the Clonsilla area of Dublin earlier today.

It followed a planned search at a house in the area at around 7am this morning.

During the search, gardai say that a large number of books and pamphlets - some of which are of historical value - were recovered.

The man is being held at Lucan Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
