James Meyers based out of Concord, North Carolina didn't think too much about it when a local police officer pulled him over for a busted tail light.
However, 25 minutes later, the officer returned with information that there had been an outstanding arrest warrant on Meyers since 2002.
Meyers had rented a copy of Tom Green's 2001 comedy Freddy Got Fingered, and had never returned the VHS, so he was then arrested with failure to return rental property, a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $200.
While the officer had allowed Meyers to take his daughter to school as long as he appeared at the local station later that day, he was surprised when he was arrested there, and brought to the magistrate's court.
The movie's star heard about the story and took to Twitter to express his dismay:
I just saw this and I am struggling to believe it is real. https://t.co/GrTXoUj29X

Green, who is currently on a comedy tour in Australia, reached out to Meyers, and told local news: “If it’s 200 bucks of course I’ll pay it for him, just for the principle of the thing."
