A man is being questioned on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at a house in Kilkenny city yesterday evening.
The woman, aged in her 70s, was found dead at a house in Maudlin Street at around 6pm.
A man was later arrested and remains in custody at Kilkenny Garda Station.
The woman’s remains have been removed to the Dublin City Morgue where a post-mortem will be carried out by State Pathologist Dr Linda Mullen later today.
Garda are continuing a technical examination of the scene and officers are also carrying searches of the surrounding area.
Gardaí have classified the death as unexplained and are continuing to investigate all the circumstances around it.
